Rossanne

The good the bad and the downright ugly!!! I apologise in advance for the novel :) We stayed at this resort 8 years ago and even back then it was showing signs of its age and lack of maintenance. I was pleased to see that substantial renovation work has taken place in this time with the painting of the exterior of most of the buildings and the rejuvenation of the areas around the lagoons. The old dated and broken trellis has been replaced and on the whole the resorts exterior looks far better than it did. We requested an early check in at 14:00 and this request was accommodated with a smile. We were checked in by the Manager and his appearance and demeanour were exactly in keeping with a 5 star resort. The token system for beach towels and umbrellas is a fantastic idea and much appreciated. Our lagoon view room was situated a bit of a distance from the amenities and reception but the room was spotless and the location superb. It was great to see the initiative with housekeeping and the offer of a “subject to conditions” credit for declining housekeeping, put to guests on the basis of “laundering only when requested, we reduce chlorine, detergent and water use”. This is true BUT until the resort installs water saving showerheads and duel flush toilets, it is not contributing to saving water at all. The $15 credit offered falls a very long way short of the actual cost to the resort in wages, super, laundering costs, water and detergent when guests decline housekeeping. If you are going to offer a credit it should be unrestricted and come off the final account with a smile. What is offered versus what is gained is a huge win for the resort and the application of the credit should be sorted in the back office and not restricted in anyway on its use around the resort. Others have rated the children’s’ water equipment. This equipment was not available during our stay and would certainly have been the highlight of our stay and would have been very popular with my two boys. It was tied up in a corner of a lagoon and appeared to be out of use which is a great pity. Our stay contributed significantly to the profits of the games room which my children enjoyed immensely. We ordered in room dining on our first night and were pleasantly surprised at the $10 charge to do this. This is competitive and the order was delivered exactly when promised. There was no delay and our food was delivered hot within about 25 minutes. The Barramundi was superb, however for the price you could not say that the food was plentiful and was probably only just in excess of an entrée dish. This left me leaving the resort for the local Coles supermarket to get something else to eat and that is certainly saying something given that I am not a big eater. The children liked their meals but the 8 year old was forced to share his pasta with his 9 year old brother because the small steak, mashed potatoes and three beans were simply not enough for him either. I was astounded to be served up what appeared to be a “McCains” frozen pizza at the poolside bar later in our stay for the pricy sum of $25. It is unacceptable for a 5 star resort to have any commercially prepared, reheated frozen food leaving its kitchen at any time, particularly given to high standard that had previously been presented to us. The Chef prepared food may have lacked quantity but its quality exceeded expectations. During our stay the resort offered either a DJ or live entertainment which I am sure is appreciated by most guests, however, the resort urgently needs to review its policy on the responsible serving of alcohol given that some guests returned to their rooms at 2am clearly utterly inebriated which I am certain woke most of the guests in our area and resulted in at least one drunk guest having to be removed from a lagoon after falling or staggering into it. It the resort does not have a “no party policy” then it needs one, if it does it needs a review after the return of a number of guests, on the same night at 4am in a very drunken state. Maybe the “yobbo” element could be accommodated a little closer to reception so that they do not have to stagger all over the grounds looking for their rooms and disturbing everybody else :( I was dismayed to see the grass on the golf courses looking very much the worst for wear. I understand that the weather can play a significant role in how the fairways are looking but others did not have that yellowed “give me some love and attention (and some fertilizer!) look” that yours did. This needs review as it looks bad from the main road, just passing the resort. This is not intended to be a bad review, I enjoyed my time at your resort but a couple of little things, like the pizza and the suggestions that guests save water by not taking housekeeping left me a little annoyed. Would I stay there again, absolutely I would, the gardens and the pools are meticulously maintained and the staff were the most professional I have come across, however I feel that a review of the target guest maybe needed by senior management to get occupancy rates up and get tenants in the shops that lay empty in the shopping area. That is a real shame. A special thanks to the staff who manned the poolside bar area, their kindness will not be forgotten by my kids!
